3.5 Introduction to Reading Music

Goal: Read note names in and below the staff

  • Prepare White Board on Share Screen with Music Staff Lines

  • Start this lesson like every other with emm and puu, singing and buzzing 

  • Review articulation by saying 'thee' and articulating the tongue between the teeth

  • Ask the student to SIT UP TALL if they are not

  • Using Share Screen/White Board write in the note G and play that note

  • Write the name of the note above and the fingering below (using different colors)

  • Write G-F-E-D-C. Write fingerings below and note names above

  • Progress in this fashion. 

  • Explain FACE (Face in the Space) and EGBDF (Elephants Get Big Dirty Feet)

  • Explain reading notes below the staff
